The books we publish, and why

Nut Town and the Moonshine Babies is a tall Australian tale, with the animals, the landscape and the dry humor of the country it comes from.

Catholic Poems: Virtues for Every Young Soul is a book of verse on the virtues, written plainly enough for a child to follow, and read aloud by a good number of adults who picked it up for the child and kept going.

We publish them because they are good, and because of what they demonstrate. A young writer handed real tools, a real edition and a real standard produces work worth reading, rather than work worth praising. The distinction matters, and it is the whole argument of our junior list.

How to read them

Nut Town suits reading aloud from about five and independent reading from about seven. It is a tall tale and it should be read like one, at pace and with a straight face.

Catholic Poems is built for reading aloud and for learning by heart. Take one virtue at a time rather than working through the book at a sitting; a poem a week, said out loud, does more than a whole volume read once.
