Autobiography / Entrepreneurship / Character / American History
Before the founder became a business archetype, Benjamin Franklin had already written the operating manual.
Printer. Writer. Inventor. Entrepreneur. Diplomat. Civic builder. Statesman.
Franklin's unfinished autobiography, written in stages between 1771 and 1790, follows his journey from apprentice printer and runaway young man to one of the defining figures of early America. Along the way he records the habits, mistakes, experiments, relationships, ambitions, and deliberate program of self-improvement that shaped his rise.
Franklin did not wait for ideal circumstances. He learned skills, built networks, created institutions, earned a reputation, and kept moving.
Most famously, he devised a practical program around thirteen virtues, attempting to measure his own behavior and systematically improve it. The experiment is revealing precisely because Franklin admits how difficult self-mastery proved.
That makes this more than the story of a Founding Father. It is a case study in becoming useful.
For entrepreneurs, professionals, young adults, writers, publishers, leaders, and anyone building a life from imperfect beginnings, Franklin offers a durable program: learn the skill, improve the habit, earn trust, understand people, create value, and keep moving.
This Trumpet Publishing House unabridged edition returns readers to Franklin's own account rather than the simplified mythology that accumulated around him.
Long before personal development became an industry, Franklin made himself the experiment.
