10-Week News & Reporting Practicum: Cringe-Proof Content in Business

Build a portfolio that proves you can think.
Anyone can post.
Far fewer people know how to find a story, ask the right question, investigate it, verify what they have found, make sense of it, and publish something worth another person’s attention.
That is the skill this practicum builds.
The problem is judgment
The problem today is not access to publishing tools. Everyone has them.
The problem is judgment.
Social media and video networks are now the most widely used way of accessing online news globally, used by 54 percent of respondents. Yet trust in news has fallen to 37 percent, while 62 percent say they are concerned about false or misleading information online.
Businesses face the same problem from another direction. They do not simply need more content. They need ideas and information that people can trust.
In Edelman and LinkedIn’s 2025 research, 73 percent of target B2B decision-makers said thought leadership was more effective than conventional marketing or sales materials at demonstrating a vendor’s potential value. Sixty-five percent said it was a more trustworthy basis for assessing a company’s capabilities.
Human judgment first. Advanced technology second.
AI can help you build a digital newsroom. But first, you have to learn to think like one.
AI can research leads, organize information, transcribe interviews, analyze material, draft, repurpose, and help you publish faster.
I am happy to show you how to use it.
But I have to train you first.
Because you still need to know:
- What makes a story?
- Which source should you trust?
- What question has not been asked?
- What information is missing?
- What needs checking?
- Where is the angle?
- What should be cut?
- What deserves to be published at all?
Those are newsroom skills.
They are also the skills that make you better at directing AI.
Nearly 74 percent of Gen Zs and millennials now use AI in their day-to-day work. Deloitte also points to the growing need for workplaces to deliberately build human judgment, influence and collaboration alongside AI.
The question is no longer whether you will use AI. It is whether you have the judgment to direct it well.
This is not a content creation course
You will not spend 10 weeks learning to chase algorithms, copy viral formats, or feed a content treadmill.
This is foundational training in news and reporting.
I bring into the room the principles I learned through two degrees and three decades practicing journalism across news, politics, features, and lifestyle media.
The fundamentals still apply:
- Find the story.
- Research it.
- Interview properly.
- Check the facts.
- Find the angle.
- Write clearly.
- Edit hard.
- Know what deserves to be published.
Technology can help with the mechanics.
It cannot replace editorial judgment.
A real editorial room
This is not a passive online course.
There are a maximum of 10 participants.
Each week we meet for one live editorial session. Weekend spots are available, and scheduling is flexible for the cohort. You bring the work. We question it, test it, research it, edit it, and improve it.
You will complete practical assignments between sessions, with approximately 10 minutes of individual project time in the room each week. Graduates receive a certificate of completion and lifetime membership of The Business Newsroom network.
You do the work.
I give you the newsroom.
What you will build
Over 10 weeks, you will develop a real media project, professional portfolio, or Business Newsroom plan that can be used in the market.
You might leave with a portfolio of reported work, a credible professional media presence, an editorial series, a newsroom plan for your business, or the beginnings of your own digital newsroom.
The point is the same.
You leave with something real.
Two tracks. Same foundation.
Cadet Track
For students, graduates, and early-career professionals who want proof that they can do more than operate software.
Learn to research, interview, report, analyze, write, and exercise judgment.
Business Track
For founders, professionals, and internal teams who want to begin operating as their own media outlet instead of outsourcing their voice to generic marketing.
Both tracks learn the same newsroom disciplines.
What you build depends on where you start.
How it works
- Complete your purchase and receive the cohort details.
- Twenty-four hours before the first editorial room, receive your preparation and starting instructions.
- Bring your work into the room every week.
- Research, report, test, edit, and publish.
- Finish with a functioning project, portfolio, or newsroom plan you can actually use.
The outcome
Not more content. Better judgment. Better work. A portfolio that proves it.
I can show you how to build your digital newsroom. But first, I have to train you to think like one.
